For a Fir Tree
by Geordie Ingerson
The Fir tree is
Nerthus’ tree; she enjoys all evergreens. Winter seems to be a time of year
that she especially likes, and the evergreens are a living promise of abundance
even in the cold. Tie a ribbon of any colour to a special fir tree and say this
prayer:
Erce, Erce, Erce, I hail you
Even in this time of Earth’s sleeping;
May I and my family continue to grow
And survive like your green in the cold.
