Funeral Prayer for a Partner
Freya, Vanadis, Lady of Love,
Long ago you lost your beloved
And you wandered far and wide to find him,
To no avail. You who are Love learned Loss,
And the darkness of mourning, and plunged far
Into the wailing depths where I lie now.
Vanadis, my beloved has been taken from me,
My pole-star riven from the sky,
My heart torn away and bleeding.
Lady, I come to you wreathed in whistling winds
Of loss and despair, yet as you once loved and lost
And lived on, so I must live on. As you once passed
From mourning into joy, and became again
Lady of Love, so help me pass through this pain
In its own time, and bring me again to a year
When I can see the springtime sky and laugh,
And remember love, and be glad for the gift given,
Which is not given to all,
And find peace within my healing heart.
