All-Father
by Andrew Gyll
Wisdom and knowledge
are the winds on which
he rides.
One thing, above all,
he has learned;
no god is all-wise.
He has cast me down,
extracted oaths.
He has lifted me up
and enlightened me.
He has released me
and set me on my path.
His single eye is a blue star
blazing in space.
I do not understand him.
His purposes are
inscrutable as mist;
he knows the worlds
must move on,
yet ever seeks
to avert the cataclysm,
the day of doom
and his own
inevitable twilight.
