For the Wolf
by Corbie Petulengro
Wolf, you grin at me through the window
Like my inner wolf self
Not the noble totem in china
and plastic beside my bed
But the wild, rending, jaws that threaten
to tear apart all that I love....
You would have me see my own children as prey,
leave their tiny bodies bloodied at the doorstep,
rip the throat of the love that shares my bed,
run howling for the night....
Wolf, I must close the window, bury
my head for love of them
or love of you will destroy us all,
yet if I deny you live in me
You will have the right to tear out my tongue
for my lies.
