Because You Lived
A song for the Ancestors.
We live because you lived,
Because you wrote, we have your wisdom.
Your blood runs through our veins,
Your brightest flames our inspiration.
We grew because you cared,
Because you dared to swear survival,
We know the road behind,
The threads unwind, the hope we find, because you lived.
We learn because you failed,
Because you fell to fear and rages,
You walked those darkened roads,
The ones who caged, the ones in cages,
And if we find a way
To greater peace, it will be only,
The price you paid for us
That teaches well the lessons learned because you burned.
We live because you strove,
Because you starved to feed your children.
You worked the earth and stone,
The hearth and home, the fields of giving,
You held them to your hearts
And then released them to the future,
They flew from open hands
To do the same, to form this chain, because you loved.
